Meaning of Waqf

Types of wakof in the Qur'an
- Waqof Taamm is a perfect waqf that stops reading with perfect words, don't stop in the middle of words, and does not affect the meaning and meaning of words, because it has nothing to do with the previous or next verse;
- Waqof kaaf is waqf that is enough to stop a word with a perfect meaning and not stop in the middle of a word or recitation. However, the reading still has a meaning relation to the words after it.

Tanda Waqaf
- Waqof La Washal. Waqaf ‘La’ means "can't stop". If there is a sign of waqof in the middle of this verse, it doesn't have to stop. However, if this waqf sign is at the end of the verse then it is allowed to stop. An example is found in surah An-Nahl verse 32.
- Tanda ‘Me’ also called Waqof Lazim. It will stop at the end of a perfect sentence. Wakof Lazim is also called waqaf taamm or perfect because waqf occurs after a complete sentence and then has no connection with the sentence after it.. The sign of Mim has a resemblance to the sign of tajwid iqlab, but differ greatly in function and purpose. For example, wakaf is commonly found in Surat Al-An’aam verse 20.
- The Sad sign is also called Waqaf Murakhkhas. This shows that it is better not to stop but it is okay to stop in an emergency without changing the meaning. The difference between the laws of Zha and Sad signs lies in their function, in other words, more allowed to stop at Waqaf Sad.
- The sign of sad-lam-ya is an abbreviation for "Al-wasl Awlaa". Which means wasal and continuing reading is better, therefore it is better to continue reading without waqf.
- The sign of qaf is an abbreviation of Qeela alayhil waqf, which means it was stopped at the previous waqf. Therefore it is recommended to keep reading, although it can be waqf.
- Tanda sad-lam is an abbreviation for Qad yoosalu, which means sometimes it can be washed out, so it is better to stop even if it can sometimes be reversed.
- The qif sign means stop. more important to stop. These markers usually appear in sentences that readers usually continue to read without stopping.
- Sign sin or saktah which means to stop without taking a breath. In other words, The reader must pause without taking a breath to continue reading.
- La sign means Don't stop. These signs sometimes appear at the end or in the middle of a sentence. If it appears in the middle of the verse, it cannot stop and if at the end of the sentence, the reader can stop or not.
- The sign kaf is an abbreviation for Kathaalik and means similar. In other words, The meaning of this waqf is similar to the previous waqf.
- The sign of the three branches is called Waqaf Muraqabah or Waqaf Ta’anuq or bound. This waqf will appear twice everywhere. To read it, stop at one of these signs. If you stop at the first sign, You don't have to stop at the second sign and vice versa.
- Waqfah sign means the same as Saktah waqf but must stop longer without taking a breath.
- Waqfa sign is a sign of Absolute Waqf and must stop.
- The sign tho is Waqaf Jaiz. Can stop and can continue.
- Zha sign means it's better not to stop.
