Tawasul and Istighotsah with People Who Have Died
Tawassul is pray to God through an intermediary, whether the mediator is our charity or through a righteous person whom we consider to be closer to God
Before explaining the propositions about the ability of istighotsah and wasilah or tawasul on people who have died, It's a good idea to ask the following questions first :
- Is the person who died in his grave still alive so that we can pray and istighotsah against him ?
- Whether in the grave they can hear our istighotsah and wasilah ?
- And whether they can give us help ?
The answer to the questions above is Yes, in the sense that they are still alive in their graves, can listen and give help to those who tawassul against him.
The evidence of the Qur'an that strengthens it
Do not think that those who fall in the way of Allah are dead; even they live with their Lord by getting sustenance. (QS. Ali Imron:169)
154. And say not of those who are slain in the way of Allah, (that they are) die; even (in fact) they are alive, but you don't realize it. (QS. Al Baqoroh:154)

The same is true of tawassul with other than the Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.. on the basis of consensus’ Friend, that is ijma’ breadfruit’ . as the basis for the existence of ijma’ this was the silence of the companions when Umar ibn Khothob prayed with tawassul to Ibn Abbas and with the pious for their deeds. This has been narrated by Imam Tirmidhi in the book "Ad-da'wat", Ibn Majah in "Sholatul hajat", al-Bukhori and Ibn Khuzaimah.
