A Brief History
Almost all Indonesians know this sholawat, namely Sholawat Badar . This poem begins with the words "Salatullah salamullah alaa thaha Rasulillah". Shalatullah salamullah alaa yasin habibillah. This blessing consists of 24 bytes with two lines in each byte.
But who is actually the author of Shalawat Badar who is already ingrained in this flesh ?
This Shalawat was composed by KH M Ali Manshur in the 1960s. Kiai Ali Manshur has a bloodline of great scholars. From dad, connected to Kyai Shiddiq Jember, while from the mother line, it was connected to Kiai Basyar, a scholar from Tuban.
This sholawat with the name Badr has become a mandatory poem for nahdliyin citizens. Almost in every NU activity, This blessing is sung. It has even penetrated into the genre of pop music which has been popularized by several bands and religious singers. Not only in Indonesia, Shalawat Badr is known in various parts of Islamic countries in the world.
Kiai Ali is famous for his thirst for knowledge. He studied from one pesantren to another . Starting from the Islamic Boarding School in Termas Pacitan, Lasem Islamic Boarding School, Lirboyo Islamic Boarding School in Kediri to Tebuireng Islamic Boarding School in Jombang.
Kiai Syakir narrated, When he was little, Kiai Ali studied in the city of Tuban. After that, Kyai Ali wanted to study at Termas but only had an onthel bike and corn rice. Finally from Tuban to Tremas, He rides an onthel bicycle and supplies corn rice. While at the pesantren, Kiai Ali received a motorcycle taxi to the market and the proceeds were used to buy books.
"Kyai Ali likes the knowledge of Arrudh (Ilmu Sya’ir), and learn this knowledge at the Lirboyo boarding school. He is often invited to discussion by the caretaker of Arrudh's problems. According to Gus Dur, Kiai Ali also studied at Tebuireng,”
After studying, Kiai Ali returned to the city of Tuban and actively organized in the Indonesian Islamic Youth Movement or known as (GPIIIa). He is also active as an officer under the Ministry of Religion. Specifically, namely being the Head of the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA) in the sub-district until promotion to the Head of the Ministry of Religion (Ministry of Religion) at the district level.
Year 1955, Kiai Ali was elected as a member of the Constituent Assembly representing the Bali Branch of the NU Party. In the year 1962, he decided to move to Banyuwangi and was trusted to be the Head of the NU Branch in Banyuwangi, Kiai Ali gave birth to a phenomenal work, namely Shalawat Badar .
