History of Pancasila

Understanding the changes in the composition of the Panchila commandments means understanding the history of Panchila. More correctly, this can be called the official history of Pancasila, that is, chronologically adopted official changes in political decisions.

Readers should be familiar with the term committee, popular at that time, like BPUPKI, PPKI, and the ninth committee.

Just to simplify, BPUPKI was formed to prepare for Indonesian independence, whose dawn was almost breaking after the start of the Pacific War. To be an independent country, we need base country. To form the basis of our country, some people are included in the committee. Then BUPUP was born.

Session, 29 May 1945

BPUPKI held a Pancasila speech session from 29 May to 1 June 1945. On 29 May, Mohammad Yamin received the first opportunity to deliver a speech of the five orders proposed to become the basic principles of the Indonesian state, that is:

The national fairy
Fairy of humanity
Divine fairies
Folk fairies
The welfare of the people
After his speech, Muhammad Yamin wrote the draft Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, which incorporates the following five basic principles of the state:

Faith in the One True God
National Unity of Indonesia
Honest humanity and civilized
Citizenship led by wisdom and Wisdom in consultation/ representation
Social justice for all Indonesians

Session 31 May 1945

At the BPUPKI meeting two days later, Supomo conveys his thoughts on the basic principles of the Indonesian state, that is:

unity
kinship
inner and outer balance
discussion
People's justice

Session 1 June 1945

A day later, Sukarno accepted his turn to deliver his speech on the basis of the state, that is:

Indonesian nationality
Internationalism or humanity
Consensus or democracy
Social welfare
The Supreme Deity

Sukarno's version of the government's five major proposals was referred to by him as Pancasila. This incident became the basis for determining the birth of Pancasila in 1 June 1945.

It should be noted here that the results of the proposals from the three national figures were taken into account for further discussion by a new, smaller committee formed by BPUPKI.. The new committee is known as the Ninth Committee.

Committee Session on 9 June 22, 1945

The Ninth Committee succeeded in formulating the preamble to the Constitution, known as the Jakarta Charter (Jakarta Charter). The charter states that Pancasila is as follows::

Divinity with the obligation to carry out Islamic law for its adherents
Just and civilized humanity
Indonesian Association
Citizenship led by the wisdom of wisdom in consultation/ representation
Social justice for all Indonesians

On 17 August 1945, Indonesia declares its independence. The next day, BPUPKI, which was replaced by PPKI, improve the Pancasila formula contained in the preamble of the Constitution 1945.

Session on 18 August 1945

At the conference, Mohammad Hatta proposes to change the first order, which originally read “God with an obligation to abide by Islamic law for his followers” and replaced by "God Almighty", so that Pancasila becomes:

The Supreme Deity
Just and civilized humanity
Indonesian Association
Citizenship led by wisdom and prudence in consultation/ representation
Social justice for all Indonesians

Excluding nine words has become a controversial issue that has not been discussed in detail. However, it should be noted that the founders of our country agreed that the first commandment is Almighty Allah. Discussion of the first commandments, as well as the other four commands, finished. We agreed to become Pancasila as the foundation of the country.

Presidential Instruction No. 12 year 1968

During its development, Pancasila undergoes several variations both in words, reading or pronunciation. To avoid this diversity, Suharto issued a Presidential Instruction on the correct words of Pancasila in 1968, which states:

Just and civilized humanity
Indonesian Association
Citizenship led by wisdom and prudence in consultation/ representation
Social justice for all Indonesians
