Mad Thobi'i is a part of Mad Law. In language or etymology Mad Thobi'i means natural or original, that is, read with a length of two vowels or one alif.
In the science of tajwid, Mad Thobi'i is often referred to by another term as Mad Asli, it has the origin of an event, and this is the key [basic] in learning about the law from Mad Far’i.
Understanding Mad Thobii
Mad Thobi'i is a branch of Mad law. Mad Thobi'i means ordinary or natural, which means nothing less and nothing more. Mad Thobi’i is recited throughout one alif / two harakat. In the science of Tajweed, Mad Thobi'i is often referred to as Mad Asli, means the origin of the incident, and is a basic lesson in learning Mad Far'i laws.
When the letter alif ( ا ) located after fathah or yes’ breadfruit ( ي ) after kasrah ( ―ِ ) or wau ( و ) after dhommah ( ―ُ ) so that Mad Thobi’i’s reading law. Mad means long, and Thobi'i means ordinary.
Mad Thobii's Law
Mad Law is in effect at this time :
- Hijaiyah letter with the above harakat or Fathah ( ــــَــ ) met with the letter hijaiyah Alif ( ا );
- Hijaiyah letters with the harakat below or Kasrah ( ـــــِـــ ) meet the hijaiyah letter Ya Sukun ( يْ );
- And hijaiyah letters with harakat on the front or Dhammah ( ـــــــُــــــ ) meet the letter Waw breadfruit ( وْ ) then the letters are read with the length of one alif or two harakat.

How to read
The way to read it is to read two harokats in length. Two harokats can be likened to one beat.
For example one harokat means one beat, two harokat means two beats and the next when six harokat means six beats.
The length between one beat and another beat is the same. not slower and not faster.
