Mad is one of the most important laws to learn in Tajwid Science. because a minimal understanding of mad law will lead to errors in reading the Koran, shorten the reading that should be read long and vice versa, namely lengthening what should be a short reading. Therefore, let's learn about mad law in full.
Understanding Mad Law
Mad literally means to continue/exaggerate, whereas according to the term mad means the sign of a long sound in Al-Quran recitation or a short sound becomes a long sound. And according to tajwid scholars and reading experts, mad means lengthening the sound with a continuation according to the position of one of the mad letters.
Mad is divided into two parts, namely original mad and mad far'i and there are three mad letters, namely alif, wau, and yes. The letters are lined up dead or saktah and the length and short of the mad reading is measured using harakat.
All kinds of Mad
Below are various Mad laws along with examples and how to read them :
- Mad Thabii
- When the letter alif [ ا ] located after fathah or ya sukun [ ي ] after kasrah [ ―ِ ] or wau [ و ] after dhammah [ ―ُ ] then punished mad thabii . Mad means long and thabii means regular. It must be read two letters long [one alif]. for example :
- Mad Obligatory Muttasil
- When Mad Thabii meets Hamza on one sentence or one word. It must be read at a length of five harokats or two and a half alifs. for example :
- Mad jaiz munfasil
- When Mad Thabii met Hamzah, Hamzah was in a different sentence. Jaiz means possible and Munfasil means separated. And reading it can be like mad wajib muttasil and can be like mad thobii. for example :
- Mad Lazim Mutsaqqal Kilmi
- When mad thobi'i meets a letter that has tasydid in one word. Mad Lazim Mutsaqqal Kilmi has a sign or symbol in the form of a thick curved line drawn like a picture of a sword, same as in Mad Wajib Muttashil. Read it the long way 6 love or 3 alif. for example :
- Mad Lazim Mukhaffaf Kilmi
- When mad thobii meets a consonant or tribe, and read it a long way 6 movement.
- Mad Layyin or Mad Lin
- When in a speech there are letters with the character fathah meet wau sukun or die and ya sukun or die, then there are other letters that are also harokat, so it is called mad Layyin. how to read it, read waqof or stop and when it is read further it is not read long. The length of reading this mad layyin or mad lin 2 to 6 love or 1 to 3 alif. for example :
- Mad Arid Lissukun
- When mad thobii meets a vowel in a sentence and is read waqof or stop. And it's two long, four, or six harokat or one, two, or three alif. When read washol or continue, then the law goes back to mad thobii, namely two harokat. for example :
- Mad Silah Qasirah
- When the letter haa is dhamir while before haa there is a living or moving letter, then you must read it in a long way like Mad Thobii. for example :
- Mad Shilah Thowilah
- When ha dhamir or a pronoun meets a hamzah letter that has a harokat and the letter before the ha dhamir must also have a harokat. The length of the reading is two to five harokat or one to two and a half alif. for example :
- Mad Iwad
- At the end of the sentence there is a letter that moves fathah tanwin and is read as waqof or stop. It is read as long as two harokat or one alif. Example :
- Mad Badal
- When Hamza [ء] meet Mad. Mad badal occurs when there are two hamzah letters and the first hamzah letter is harokat while the second hamzah letter is sukun or dead, then the second hamzah is replaced with alif, wau, or yes. read two characters long or 1 alif. for example :
- Mad Lazim Harfi Musyabba
- When the beginning of a letter from the Qur'an there is one or more of the eight letters, namely Nun, Qaf, sad, ‘Ain, Without, Blue, Kafr, Mim and read it the same as Mad Lazim, namely six Harokat . Example :
- Mad Lazim Harfi Mukhaffaf
- When starting a letter from the Qur'an there is one or more of the five letters, namely : Ha’, Ya, Ta’, Ha, Out'. Reading it is the same as Mad Thobii. Example :
- Mad Tamkin
- At the time of mad found in the letter yes’ multiplied, where?’ the first one is marked (tasydid kasroh), and yes’ the second is marked with sukan or dead. The condition is when it is no longer followed by an off vowel or because it is at the end of the reading, Due to this situation, the name will change to Mad Arid Lissukun. How to read it is two characters long. Example :
- Mad Farq
- Mad Farq or Farqi is one of the Mad laws that occurred from the meeting of Mad Badal and the tasydid letter. It is called Mad Farqi because to differentiate it is a hamzah that is used to ask questions (is?) or it can also be called Mad Istifham or question. Read three Alif or six harakat long. Example :
