Tarawih in Arabic is a plural form’ from تَرْوِيْحَةٌ which is interpreted as "a short period of time to rest". The following is an explanation of Tarawihh Prayers and tarawih Prayers along with the number of rokaat tarawih prayers according to the four schools of worship

The time for performing this sunnat prayer is after isya ', generally carried out in congregation at the mosque. An interesting fact about this prayer is that Rosululloh S.A.W only ever performed it in congregation 3 times of opportunity. It is stated that Rosulullah S.A.W then did not continue in the following nights for fear that this would become compulsory to the Muslim community.

Number of Raka'at Tarawih Prayers
There are several practices regarding the number of roka'at and the number of Tarawih prayers. At the time of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, Tarawih prayers were performed only three or four times, There is not a single statement that states the number of the raka'at.
Then the Tarawih prayer in congregation was stopped, because there is a concern that it will be obliged. It was only during the time of Caliph Umar that the Tarawih prayer was performed in congregation, with the number 20 rak'at followed by 3 raka’at witir. Since then Muslims around the world perform Tarawih prayers on every night of Ramadan with 20 raka’at.
Opinions of the Four Sects
- Al-Hanafi School (8 rakaat)
- Al-Malikiyah (in part 8 or 20 rakaat)
- As-Syafi'iyah (20 rakaat)
- Al-Hanabilah (in part 8 or 20 rakaat).
While Umar bin Abdul Aziz as the caliph of the Umayyads in Damascus performed Tarawih prayers with 36 raka’at. And Ibn Taymiyyah ran 40 raka’at.
The first time that set Tarawih prayers only 8 rak'at in history is the opinion of the people in the end times, like for example Ash-Shan'ani (w.1182 H), Al-Mubarakfury (w. 1353 H) dan Al-Albani. Ash-Shan’ani
Such is the discussion of tarawih prayers, Hopefully useful
