Every living creature of Allah Subhanallahu wa ta’ala will surely die or in other words, will surely die and change to the eternal realm that is the afterlife. That is why we need to practice the best practices while in the world to provide for us in the hereafter.

In Islam, there are also rules or procedures regarding people who have died and people who are still alive in relation to corpses.

The law of funeral prayer is Fard Kifayah. This means that if a Muslim in a village or region dies, there are some people who pray and even if only a few pray. Enough to fulfill the obligation to pray for the corpse.

Otherwise, if there are Muslims in a village or region who die but none of them pray for the corpse, then the village or region will get a sin because the rights as corpses of Muslims are not fulfilled,

There are procedures for the funeral prayer in Islam that we must know. Because the funeral prayer is not the same as other Fardu prayers. Therefore, I this article about funeral prayers, where the goal is to understand and know the procedure for praying the corpse correctly.

Let's look at this article together and hope that we will receive a valuable lesson.

Readings of funeral prayers

In practice in praying for the dead, there is a lot of reading, namely reading which is a condition or prayer for the dead, in other words, for those who are praying. The recitation of the funeral prayer begins with the recitation of intentions, takbir, prayers and finally greetings. Below is an explanation of the readings:

The intention of the funeral prayer

It starts with discussing the intention of praying the corpse. Like prayer in general, The funeral prayer begins with the intention. For this reason, there is a slight difference between reading the prayer of a man's corpse, recitation of the intention of the funeral prayer of a woman and the recitation of the funeral prayer for children or infants who have died. The following is a reading of the intention for the funeral prayer:

The intention in this prayer has two opinions. The first is spoken while the second is not spoken. Both can be practiced according to your beliefs.

(Ushalli ‘ala hadzal mayyiti arba’a takbirotin fardhol kifayati ma’muman lillahi ta’ala)

That means: "I intend to pray over this corpse of four Takbir Fardhu Kifayah as a makmum because of Allah Ta'ala.

  • Intention for female funeral prayers

For women's corpses, the reading of his intention is as follows :

(Usholli ‘ala hadzihil mayyitati arba’a takbirotin fardhol kifayati ma’amuman lillahi ta’ala)

That means : "I intend to pray over this woman's corpse four times takbir fardhu kifayah as makmum because of Allah Ta'ala.”

  • Intention for the funeral prayers of the Children

For the corpses of children, the reading of his intention is as follows :

(Usholli ‘ala hadzal mayyiti arba’a takbirotin fardhol kifayati ma’amuman lillahi ta’ala)

That means : "I intend to pray over this corpse four times takbir fardhu kifayah to be makmum because of Allah Ta'ala.”

Note

The above intention is the intention to be read when we become a makmum during the funeral prayer. If our position as priests is in funeral prayer, then the intention of the funeral prayer is the same as usual, but there are words that need to be changed, which is changed in words مأمأوما meaning as makmum changed to إمإاما it means as a priest.

Even, In this matter of intention, there are differences from several Madzhab, some say something should not be said, and there are also those who say that it was spoken. It all comes back to you individually, which you can choose.

Even if you believe that the intention should not only be interpreted as meaning in the heart, that is enough to justify the above intention.

The first takbir then reads the letter of Al-fatihah

(Bismillahirrahmanirrahim. Alhamdulillahi rabbil alamin,
Arrahmaanirrahiim, Maliki yaumiddiin, Iyyaka nabudu waiyyaaka nastaiin, Ishiratalladzina an'amta alaihim ghairil maghduubi alaihim waladhaalin)

That means :
"In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful".
"All praises be to Allah, God of the universe".
"Most Gracious and Most Merciful".
"Who rules on the Day of Judgment".
“You are the only one we worship, and only to You do we ask for help ".
"Show us the straight path",
“(that is) The path of those whom You have favored; not (Street) those who are angry and not (anyway the road) those who are astray ".

The second takbir then recites the prayers of the Prophet

After reading Surah al-Fatihah, continue with the second takbir and recite the Sholawat of the Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam

(Allahumma sholli alla muhammad)

That means: “O Allah, bestow prosperity on the Prophet Muhammad.”

Or read the more complete prayers of the Prophet Muhammad :

That means:"O Allah, grant prosperity to Muhammad and also to Muhammad's family, as Thou hast given prosperity to Ibrahim and also to the family of Ibrahim verily Thou art the Most Praiseworthy and the Most Glorious, and bestow blessings on Muhammad and also on the family of Muhammad as You bestowed blessings on Ibrahim and also on the family of Ibrahim indeed You are Most Praiseworthy and Glorious ".

The third takbir then reads a prayer for the corpse

After reciting prayers for the Prophet Muhammad SAW. followed by the third takbir, Then pray for the corpse say the following prayer:

Prayer readings Funeral prayers Men and women

In the third Takbir, we pray for the dead, to be forgiven of his sins, be blessed, saved from the torment of the grave and forgiven of all the wrongs in his life. Below are the funeral prayers of men and women:

(Allahumagfir lahu warhamhu wa 'afuhi wa 'fu'anhu)

That means:“Ya Allah, forgive and have mercy on him. Save and forgive him.”

Or,

That means:“Ya Allah, forgive and have mercy on him. Save and forgive him. Respect him, widen his grave. Bathe him (corpse) with water, snow, and dew. Cleanse him of all guilt as You cleanse a white garment from dirt. Substitute for him a house that is better than his house, also a better wife than his wife. And take care (Protect it) it is from the torment of the grave and hell.”

Note :

In addition to prayers for the corpse of men, different is also another prayer for the corpse of a woman. The fact, this difference is not that big, differs only from the end of each sentence when the prayer for men ends with “hu” while prayers for women end with "ha".

The fourth Takbir then recited the Prayer

Greetings
